This is the fix that proved to work. I took the windscreen cowling off (a bugger to get the clips out with breaking some). Last weekend when I did this I ran water down the passengers side front windscreen (Right hand drive - Australian 1999 HRV - 3Dr). I noticed that water was pooling in the area under the heater air intake vent (It only took 5min of hose water running down the passengers side front windscreen for the area under the heater air intake vent to fill with water). The photo below clearly shows how much water (the yellow line) had pooled under the heater air intake vent in the 5 mins I had run the hose down the passengers side windscreen. The red line indicates where the bottom of this area is (probably 8cm at least ( about 2 -3inches)
NOTE: the dark area under the heater air intake vent in the picture below actually shows how much water in had pooled in the area in 5 mins.

I started to dig a lot of 'gunk' out of the drainage hole (circled in pic )and then once I could no longer dig out 'gunk' I flushed it out with the garden hose, gradually increasing pressure to force any remaining 'gunk' out.

NOTE: The drivers side drainage hole was blocked up with leaves and 'gunk' worse however, there is no access for the collected water to flow into the car so it most likely just flowed into the engine bay. I would suggest that when you take the cowling off clean BOTH drainage holes as they are in places that easily allow leaves and 'gunk' to collect. The passengers side is however the one that causes wet floor because of the closeness of the heater air intake vent to the water pool. (Just don't forget to clean out the drivers side drainage hole!!!)

I am happy to say that after numerous attempts to get this fixed, this worked. When I did this last weekend I ran the hose down the passengers side of the front windscreen for about 12 mins after cleaning out the drain hole (with the cowling still off so I could see how much water pooled ) and water no longer pooled in this area. Today we had a huge downpour of rain for most of the day with some massive rain storms and the carpet was still as dry as a bone in the work car park. After a 30min drive home in the pouring rain carpet was still dry when I got home.... yay

As a preventative measure I also replaced the old foam seal around the cowling with a denser foam. That has also proved to be successful hence, between both 'fixes' HRV passengers floor is bone dry.

This is how much 'gunk' flushed out of the drainage hole after I had dug quite a lot out with a screw driver any anything else that seemed to work.

This is my first fix (and epic fail) below

I 'thought' the water causing my wet passengers floor was coming from the sheet metal to the left of the pass foot well area just infrom the the door. The fix was to reseal this area with Blue Silicon (as seen in the picture) however this did not work... see above for the real problem/fix

I also replaced the windsreen cowling foam seal for a new foam seal however, the foam I used was an interior door seal but it was too light weight and too open in it's cell structure. I ended up buying a denser closed foam cell interior door seal that worked brilliantly. It was wider than the foam cell Honda had but simply cutting it along the middle and into 2 longer pieces worked.

I'm glad I got this fixed because it was a nighmare when it rained knowing the passengers floor would end up wet causing all sorts of issues.

Issues like all the windows condensing when the inside warmed up on a sunny day because the wet floor evaporated or people having to be careful where they put their feet and of course the issues with wet metal...

Hope this was of help
Pete
